I’m also familiar with similar allegations related to the company’s drives to push people out via its performance system, which were particularly aggressive last year. \n\nThose cases are difficult to track, as staffers are generally bound by the terms of their employment contracts to work out any disputes in private arbitration, and are barred from discussing the outcomes publicly. But for right now, the company is trying to calm nerves internally by having leaders engage more with staffers, backing off pressure to use AI at every turn and committing not to do any more company-wide layoffs this year. \n\nWe also know Meta is selectively offering big packages, since lots of employees started looking for other jobs in response to the disruption, and that means the company risks losing some of those “10x” people it wants to keep. In terms of regulation, Meta generally has wide latitude to make business decisions about hiring and firing, especially in the U.S. where employment is “at will.” \n\nMy colleagues who cover the U.S. regulatory landscape tell me they’re not seeing much real movement afoot to regulate AI-related jobs displacement at this point. I was wondering if you have any information about how many of the layoffs were in the MENA or for staff working Arabic language content, and how it will affect their capacity for addressing coordinated inauthentic behavior and mitigating hate speech.",
