I’ve also gone through terrible things through no fault of my own. My stance is merely that it doesn’t make for as interesting or engaging of a film/main character. Incendies has other themes around generational trauma and guilt, and the main characters Jeanne and Simon have an arc where they learn terrible things about their mother.",

The movie is about how fucked war is for humanity and it shows the way even the most perfect individuals who have nothing really ro do witj it are absolutely destroyed. Why do you want the character to go through something he himself caused? Is that how the real world works for orphans adopted by an abusive family, children who are pure & innocent who are mentally destroyed and defeated again and again by a unjust system and face extreme levels of despair that no human should have to face. Grave lf the fireflies is a real movie. It is disturbing but very, very, very real. It is honestly of very poor taste to say that the movie is bad because the main character doesnt cause any of this, because the main character is too good? I ask you, did all the people who died in hiroshima, all the old innocent people or young children, did they do anything to deserve that? Did anyone who fought nazism in japan deserve that? I recently saw a 3.5 rated silent film and prefer it to pretty much most films I've seen in this list. Would I recommend it to just anyone? Definitely not. The person who thinks the peak of the cinematic medium is 12 Angry Men or The Godfather just isn't likely to enjoy it. Which is not to shit on those people or those movies.",
