"title": "Avocado Hass Each",
"description": "Avocado Hass Small Each is the classic Hass in a smaller portion — the same creamy, rich, nutty flesh and pebbled dark skin, sized for one or for when you just need a little. Less waste, same great flavour. A ripe Hass gives gently under pressure and has dark, almost black skin. Still green? Leave at room temperature for a day or two. Once ripe, refrigerate and use within two days. Smash onto toast with lemon and chilli, slice into a salad or grain bowl, mash into a small-batch guacamole, or serve alongside eggs for a simple breakfast.",

"title": "Avocado Hass Large Each",
"description": "Avocado Hass Large Each is the benchmark avocado — creamy, rich and nutty, with the pebbled dark skin and generous size that make it the go-to for toast, salads and everything in between. Large means more flesh per fruit. A ripe Hass gives gently under pressure and has dark, almost black skin. If it's still green and firm, leave it at room temperature for a day or two. Once ripe, refrigerate and use within two days. To slow browning on cut flesh, leave the seed in and add a squeeze of lemon. Smash onto toast with lemon and chilli, slice into a salad or grain bowl, mash into guacamole, or serve alongside eggs for a classic breakfast.",

"description": "Made the way guacamole should be made. Ripe Hass avocados, fresh lime, a little heat and nothing unnecessary. Harris Farm's guacamole is the kind of thing you put on the table and watch disappear before anything else does. Scoop it generously onto tacos, spread it thickly over toast, serve alongside a platter of chips and crudites for a crowd, or eat it straight from the tub with a spoon because sometimes that is the most honest option. Fresh, simple and genuinely good. Ready to eat straight from the fridge. No prep, no fuss, no compromise.",

"description": "Avocado Shepard Greenskin is a smaller-format version of the creamy, buttery Shepard — Australia's favourite greenskin avocado. The flesh is smooth, rich and flavoursome with minimal browning once cut, which sets it apart. The key with Shepard is that it stays green when ripe — don't wait for it to darken. Test readiness by gentle pressure at the neck end. [UNCONFIRMED: confirm seasonal availability with Carlo.] Once ripe, refrigerate and use within two days. Slice onto sourdough toast, mash for guacamole, fan over a salad, or serve halved with a squeeze of lemon and sea salt.",

"title": "Avocado Large Imperfect Each",
"description": "Imperfect large avocados at a better price. They might be a little uneven in shape, carry a surface mark, or sit outside the cosmetic grade, but cut one open and the same creamy, rich Hass flesh is there. The difference is on the outside, not the inside. Avocados are available year-round, but large Hass are at their most flavourful and creamy from autumn through winter when the oil content is highest. That is when an imperfect large avocado represents the best value on the shelf. Look for avocados that give slightly to gentle pressure all over. Avoid very firm rock-hard fruit or anything that feels mushy. If still firm, leave on the bench for a day or two. Once ripe, store in the fridge. Spread on toast, fold through a salad, dice into guacamole, or slice over a grain bowl. All the eating quality at a better price.",

Pile on top the tomatoes and baby bocconcini. Add a drizzle of caramelised balsamic vinegar, a pinch of sea salt, and fresh basil leaves. Mexican Avocado Toast INGREDIENTS 1 ripe avocado ½ corn cob ½ lime, juiced 1 tbsp coriander leaves Pinch smoked paprika 1/2 small fresh red chilli, finely sliced Pinch sea salt 2 slices sourdough toast METHOD Remove the husk and corn threads off the corncob. Warm up a heavy-duty fry pan or cast iron pan to medium to high heat. Add the corn cob and toast until lightly blackened. Use tongs to rotate and cook evenly. Once charred, slice off the corn kernels from the cob. Add them to a mixing bowl along with the juice of half a lime, a good pinch of smoked sweet paprika, the coriander leaves, red chilli and a pinch of sea salt. Stir to combine. Smash the avocado, and place over two slices of sourdough toast. Pile the charred corn mixture over the top. Add some extra coriander leaves to serve. The Nordic INGREDIENTS 1 ripe avocado 2-4 slices smoked salmon 1 cucumber 1/2 red onion thinly sliced into half moons 1 ½ tsp sugar ¼ cup apple cider vinegar ½ cup water Pinch nigella seeds 2-3 fresh dill sprigs 2 slices sourdough toast METHOD To make the quick pickled red onions: combine the water, vinegar, and sugar into a small saucepan on medium heat, stirring while the sugar dissolves. Once the sugar has dissolved pour the hot liquid over the thinly sliced red onions and set aside to pickle for 10-15 minutes or until they are soft. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the cucumber lengthways to create ribbons. Lay thin slices of avocado over two slices of toast. Pile on top a layer of cucumber ribbons, thin slices of smoked salmon, and a good helping of the pickled onion. Follow by a few sprigs of fresh dill, a sprinkle of nigella seeds, and a squeeze of lemon. Crack an egg into a small cup, gently submerge the bottom half of the cup into the water, and gently pour the egg into the water. Repeat the process for the 2 nd egg. Allow the egg to poach in the water for 3-4 minutes for a runny egg or longer if you prefer a harder egg. Using a slotted spoon gently lift the egg out of the water and place it on some kitchen paper to dry off. Serve with the remainder of the avocado cut into cubes piled over 2 slices of sourdough toast. Add the poached eggs, a good pinch of freshly cracked pepper and sea salt. "summary": "\"At Harris Farm, we want our customers to enjoy their avocados all year round. At this time of the season, we don’t trust the outcomes of the Hass variety and prefer the more predictable GMax, a green skin variety that comes after the more common Shepards. Like the Shepards, they don’t go brown when cut, they tend to be larger than the Shepards, and best of all they have smallish seed so you are getting more avocado than other varieties offer. This is a product that I can totally recommend. Also in stores, we will have specials on our line of HFM guacamole to go with our HFM corn chips, in tacos, or on a cheese board as dip.\" - David Harris",

"summary": "My pick this week is Hass avocados . These avocados are coming from Bundaberg and south east Queensland and are now in their prime. The fruit has a wonderful depth combined with that creamy texture that all avocado lovers have come to enjoy. Supply is now back on track after some disruption caused from rain. HOW TO PICK Unripe Hass avocados have green skin and feel firm. If buying a ripe avocado to eat on the same day, look for those with almost black skin that yield to gentle pressure at the stem end. HOW TO STORE Store at room temperature until ripe.",

Help look after our eyes The amazing green and yellow colours of avocados come from the natural antioxidant pigments. These colours are fat soluble and play important role in maintaining our eye health. Relieve the symptoms of arthritis Avocados are a great source of vitamin E and the antioxidants present in them can help fight inflammation, which may relieve symptoms of arthritis. Great for our digestive symptoms The high fibre content in avocados helps to keep our digestive systems healthy and regular and can assist with weight loss (or maintenance). A good food choice for people living with diabetes The healthy fats and high fibre in avocados have been shown to help improve insulin sensitivity and help control blood glucose levels. A good food choice for pregnant women Avocados are rich in folate, a nutrient that plays a vital role in growth and cell development. Consuming a diet rich in folate is especially important for women of childbearing age. Eating just one quarter of an avocado each day accounts for 15% of the daily requirement. Here’s 3 simple ways to start enjoying Avocado everyday: Mashed it up and spread it on your sandwich as a replacement to butter Diced it up and add it to delicious simple salads Mixed it with a little lemon juice, a pinch of salt, some cherry tomatoes and some diced Spanish onion for a delicious homemade guacamole dip! "summary": "Reed avocados are not well known, but much loved by those who do know them. They are larger than most avocados, with a skin that remains green when the fruit ripens and are round in shape unlike most other avocados. They have a nutty flavour quite different to the far better known black skin Hass variety and cut fruit stores well in the fridge - again different to other varieties. They do have a somewhat large seed, but the fruit is very large also meaning each avocado provides a lot of fruit. December to February is when they are at their best, with fruit coming from Southern and Western Australia. They are my first choice of avocado at this time of the year. The fruit earlier in the year is from Queensland and not very good. The fat in avos and particularly reeds is good fat and keeps you healthy. If you have not tried them before this is the week to do it, they are on special, well priced, great value and cheaper than their dark-skinned cousins in all HFM stores this week. HOW TO PICK To find out if a Reed avocado is ready to eat, hold it in your hand and gently press your thumb. It will not feel rock hard, but will “give” just slightly. HOW TO STORE Store at room temperature until ripe. They don’t turn black when they’re ripe…so it takes a little practice to learn when a Reed is perfectly ready to eat. → B uy Reed Avocados Online",

The Shepards only grow in far North Queensland for a couple of months a year and are fantastic to eat. They don’t change colour as they ripen, so to test for ripeness give it a gentle squeeze and if the fruit has some give in it, then it is ready. Don’t store in the fridge until its ripe and then don’t store for long. Their best attribute is they don’t go brown when you cut them.",

"summary": "This week, we will transition from the black when ripe Hass avocados to Shepard avocados. These are a green skinned variety and won't change colour. A gentle squeeze that has some give in it will tell you when they are ready to eat. Like all tropical fruit, they are best out of the fridge, only refrigerate when ripe and then only for a day or two. Unlike the Hass variety, Shepard's only grow in tropical North Queensland and are the main avocado on sale from now until mid-April. In total, they represent about ten per cent of Australia’s avocado crop. They are the first avocado of the year and have a nutty flavour and buttery texture. The old season Hass will still be in some shops this week, but this is the time when they start to cut black so look for the green skins. Shepard's are easy to distinguish from unripe Hass as they are much longer and more elongated and will be a more reliable option than the Hass variety. One thing I really like about this avocado is that when you cut them they don't go brown. HOW TO PICK Shepard’s don’t go black on the skin as they ripen, you must judge the ripeness by the feel of the fruit. Pick avocados which give gently when pressed on the top end. HOW TO STORE Store unripe fruit at room temperature. Once ripe, store in the fridge.",

"summary": "This week I would like to recommend our Western Australian avocados as the only avocado to buy. We have been buying a small amount of New Zealand fruit in the last month when we have been caught short on our WA fruit, and have been disappointed every time. The Aussie fruit eats and keeps far better. Not surprisingly, therefore it is dearer to buy than the somewhat inferior NZ fruit. Most large retailers from both a price and continuity of supply perspective have to stock both. We are not going to any longer, for us now we will be stocking this fruit only, with the exception of the 2 or 3 weeks around Christmas when we will offer an alternative, the big round Reed avocados which are also fantastic to eat. The market is very tight on what has become a staple fruit and we would like to continue giving our customers the best fruit only and that’s the Western Australian product. HOW TO PICK Unripe Hass avocados have green skin and feel firm. If you’re looking for a ripe avocado, look for those with almost black skin which give slightly when gently pressed on the top end. HOW TO STORE Store in the fruit bowl until ripe. Once ripe, store in the fridge. Eat and room temperature. To buy avocados online, click here .",

With the very small seed this variety typically have, they are exceptional value and fantastic to eat. This fruit will be available over the next month or so. With a smooth green skin and gold buttery flesh, these beautiful pear shaped avos from North Queensland are creamy, delicious and are rich in healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Picked at optimum maturity, this particular variety are larger than a Shepard, have a seed smaller than both the Shepard and Hass, and best of all, this variety doesn't go brown when cut, making them perfect for salads or guac!",
